aural jewel in the crown for the ever-consistent pickled egg label. this four tracker is slow to kick in but give it time and i promise you will wear the vinyl out. playing the mix and match game homescience draw on such luminaries as velvet underground, pavement and will oldham while dipping their toes into the slacker generation and the wacky variations of west coast pop. not a chink in the armour in any of these four tracks, 'dust' trips through with some lovely melodica and crooked guitars. 'end the year' has a wintery country edge to it all, 'ghosts' out trips of montreal at their own game with some tentative fuzziness. i have to say that 'carol k' will take some beating this year, anthemic sounding, laid back vocals against a sublime backdrop of celestial orchestrations, an indie power ballad without the ballad. with an imminent album promised this is thoroughly recommended a limited pressing that is sure to fly out so avoid embarrassment and invest now.

"as good a taster as any for the debut lp, fusing americana, scottish tunesmithery and a downright good sound."
